Drew Alumnus Dr. Nokwon Park (T ’89, ’94) was recently elected President of the Mok Won University in Korea. He will begin his work as president of the school as of September 1, 2014.
Dr. Park finished his M.Div. degree at Drew in 1989 and earned the PhD from the Casperson School, now Drew Graduate Division of Religion, in 1994. The title of his dissertation is Critical Analysis and Evaluation of Don Browning’s Method for Pastoral Care. While he was working on his degrees at Drew, in June 1991 he was ordained a Deacon in the United Methodist Church. Upon completion of his doctoral degree, Dr. Park returned to Korea to teach and has been teaching Pastoral Care and Counseling at Mok Won University since 1996.
Dr. Park has two daughters, Sunyoung and Heayoung, and a son, Youngkyu, with his wife Misoon. Heayoung and Youngkyu were born on the Drew campus. As a Drew alumnus, Dr. Park is a great advocate and ambassador for Drew Theological School to his students, academic and church communities in Korea. It is exciting news indeed that our own alumnus is now leading one of the major theological universities in Korea.
