Theological School Orientation

Friday, August 24, 2018 – All Master’s Students

9:00 to 9:30 a.m. – Breakfast in Seminary Hall Atrium

  • Student IDs and parking permits as needed

9:30 to 9:45 a.m. – Welcome in Craig Chapel

  • Javier Viera, Dean of the Theological School

9:45 to 10:45 a.m. – Introduction to Theological Education

  • Academic Introduction with Melanie Johnson-DeBaufre, Associate Dean for the Theological School
  • Vocation & Formation Introduction with Tanya Linn Bennett, Associate Dean for Vocation and Formation
  • Digital Drew with University Technology and the Registrar

11:00 to 11:45 a.m. – Meet with your Program Convener and Advisors

12:00 to 1:00 p.m. – Community Picnic (outside Seminary Hall)

  • Green Seminary Demonstration

1:15 to 2:15 p.m. – Life in the Forest

  • Student Life Panel
  • Library Tour with Jesse Mann, Theological School Librarian

2:30 to 3:15 p.m. – Community Worship

3:15 to 4:00 p.m. – Garden Tour

  • As needed: student IDs, parking permits, and registration assistance

Saturday, August 25, 2018 – All Master’s Students

Required Digital Drew Orientation–Meets online in Zoom Classroom

All students attend one session either at 9:30 or at 11.

Talking the Walk (offered at 9:30 and 11:00)

  • Exploring God-talk Community (and practice using Zoom for discussions)

 


Friday, August 24 – PhD Student schedule

10:00 a.m. – Arrival and Tour at Methodist Archives and Library

  • Jesse Mann, Theological School Librarian

11:00 a.m. – Wendell Room, Mead Hall

  • Introduction to the Graduate Division of Religion (GDR)
    • Academic Dean Melanie Johnson-DeBaufre
    • Meredith Hoxie Schol, Director of Doctoral Studies
    • Student Area Conveners

12:00 to 1:00 p.m. – Community Picnic (outside Seminary Hall)

  • Green Seminary Demonstration

1:15 to 2:15 p.m. – Founders Room, Mead Hall

  • Welcome — Dean Javier Viera and Provost Debra Liebowitz
  • Meet the TS Faculty

2:30 to 3:15 p.m. – Community Worship

3:15 to 4:00 p.m. – Meet with doctoral area faculty and students

4:15 to 5:30 p.m. – GDR student conversation and refreshment on Mead Hall porch

Parking: If you are arriving by car, college freshmen may be moving into dormitories, severely limiting parking availability. You are advised to enter campus by the main Lancaster Road entrance off Madison Avenue. If you are stopped by Public Safety at the booth on Lancaster Road, please inform the officer that you are a student in the Theological School; you will be directed to the appropriate parking area in the Main Lot.
