Dr. Deirdre Good fills role during Dr. Melanie Johnson-Debaufre’s year at Williams.

Jan. 21, 2016

Dear Students,

As the new semester approaches, I write to share the good news that Dr. Deirdre Good will join the Theological School as Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Dr. Good begins her service this Monday (Jan. 25) and will serve in this position for the spring and fall 2016 semesters while Dr. Melanie Johnson-Debaufre is on leave. Dean Johnson-Debaufre was named to a prestigious visiting professorship at Williams College and will return to her position in January 2017.

Good is a scholar and author.

Dr. Good comes to Drew after having recently retired as the academic dean at General Theological Seminary in New York City. She served on the faculty at General from 1986-2015 as Professor of New Testament, and prior to that served as the chair of the religion department at Agnes Scott College, as well as on the religious studies faculty at Valparaiso University. She is a graduate of St. Andrews University, Cambridge University, Union Theological Seminary and Harvard University, where she completed her doctoral studies. Dr. Good is the author of many scholarly articles and the author and co-author of numerous books, including Jesus’ Family ValuesJesus the Meek King and Mariam, the Magdalen, and the Mother.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Good to the dean’s office and to Drew. I’m excited to work with such a seasoned leader in theological education and trust that she will bring great energy and care to our community. Moreover, while MJD will be primarily located in Massachusetts during her leave, she will be back to campus throughout the year and will remain involved in numerous university-wide initiatives. I hope you will also join me in wishing Dean Johnson-Debaufre and the Williams community well during the coming year.

Hopefully you are all as excited to be back on campus as we are to welcome you back. Students are our reason for being and your presence and energy have been greatly missed. Welcome back!
