   L. Elise Carter, Program Director, Level 4 Coach  

Director of Flute Choir Day, L. Elise Carter, is an adjunct professor at Drew University, and a published composer with Falls House Press. She was presented in 2005 and 2007 at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall by Artists’ International and is a member of UpTown Flutes, appearing on all three of their CDs. She holds a BM from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her piece, Triptych for Flutes, was performed at the 2009 National Flute Convention by the National High School Flute Choir. She is a member of the Zinkali Trio (flute, horn, piano), and is president of the New Jersey Flute Society.

 Virginia Schulze-Johnson, Associate Director 

Associate Director of Flute Choir Day, Virginia Schulze-Johnson, is the founding director and a member of UpTown Flutes, was formerly an adjunct professor of flute at Drew University, where she founded and directed the Drew Flute Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Summer Music Programs. Nineteen years ago, with colleague Peggy Schecter, she founded NJ Flute Choir Day, which attracts flutists from around the northeast to gather and celebrate the flute each year She was a member of the National Flute Association’s Professional Flute Choir in 2000 and 2001, and coordinated the NFA’s High School Flute Choir from 2004 to 2007.  Jeanne Fessenden, Level 1 Coach 

Jeanne Fessenden, who holds a BM from Rutgers University, and is a Graduate of the Trevor Wye Studio UK; performs in classical and jazz styles throughout NJ; teaches general music in public and private elementary school and maintains a private studio in Chester, NJ. She presents clinics and masterclasses in schools and coaches at NJ Flute Choir Day at Drew University. She is a member of UpTown Flutes and has performed on all of their CDs, including the newest one.

  Lisa Truskalawski, Level 2 Coach 

Lisa Truskolawski has a B. S. in Music Education from West Chester University, and an M.M. in Music Education from Montclair State University. She has served as an adjudicator for middle and high school regional band auditions and has taught instrumental & general music at the Manalapan-Englishtown Middle School. She has developed and teaches a music program for children ages 18 months through 4 years old at the Montclair YMCA and maintains a private flute studio in Manalapan, Cranbury, & Kearny, NJ.

 Rebecca Vega, Level 3 Coach 

Rebecca Vega is a member of the UpTown Flutes and the Terzetta Trio. She teaches flute and music education courses and conducts the Wind Ensemble and Flute Choir at Caldwell College in NJ. She is the former NFA High School Soloist Competition Coordinator and the 2009 conductor of the NFA High School Flute Choir. She has a BM in Music Ed from CSU, Long Beach and a MA in flute performance from Eastern Michigan University.


  Karen Demsey, Level 5 Coach 

Karen Demsey,who holds a Master of Music from the Eastman School of Music, and a DMA from Rutgers University, is Associate Professor of Flute and Music History at William Paterson University. She has performed as a soloist throughout the US, China and Europe. Her CD, “Recollections of the Inland Sea” (Capstone Records) features flute and marimba. She has recorded three CDs with UpTown Flutes, and is at work on the ensemble’s fourth CD.
