Tutoring Policies and FAQs.

Tutoring Policies and FAQs

Please review the following policies and procedures for tutoring:

1) When working with a tutor or writing specialist, please remember the following:

  • Tutors do NOT help with take-home tests (paper or online) or quizzes (paper or online) unless faculty provide written permission to the CAE Director at cae@drew.edu.
  • Tutors will NOT give students their own work/notes to copy/turn-in, or do homework for students.
  • Peer tutoring can ONLY be used as supplemental assistance to understand content ALREADY covered in class.
  • Tutors do NOT teach new material to students who’ve been absent in a class. For significant content-level assistance, students should talk to their professors.
  • Students must come to their tutoring sessions prepared. Tutors have the right to end the session if a student has not come fully prepared with assignments, books, notes, and goals. Each student is limited to 3 hours per week per subject.
  • Tutors or the CAE staff will provide an opportunity for students to complete a tutoring session evaluation form.
  • Tutors and/or writing specialists do NOT assist MAT candidates with edTPA submissions, including editing, proofreading, revision, etc. Creating an appointment for reviewing an edTPA submission will result in appointment cancellation.
  • Tutors and/or writing specialists do not help with resumes or cover letters. You should speak with a Career Consultant at Career Services to review these documents.

2) Individual Tutoring schedule.

You will receive an email at your DREW student email address to confirm your appointment.

  • Session Length: Students can schedule either 30-minute or one-hour appointments.
  • Drop-In session: Online Drop-In sessions require an appointment, with up to 3 participants per appointment slot.
  • BAO or By Appointment Only: Appointments with BAO tutors should be made at least 24 hours in advance. If they are not made at least 24 hours in advance, your appointment will be canceled and you will be notified by CAE staff to reschedule.
  • Canceling an Appointment: Appointment cancellations ideally must be made 24 hours in advance.  Please call the CAE at 973-408-3617 or email cae@drew.edu to cancel your appointment.
  • Late Arrivals: Appointments begin at the time they are scheduled for. That is, an appointment from 2:00-3:00 begins at 2:00Students who are more than 15 minutes late for a one-hour appointment (10 minutes for a 30-minute appointment) may lose their appointment time and have to reschedule.
  • No-shows: You are considered a no-show to your appointment if you are a late arrival or fail to cancel your appointment 24 hours in advance. After three “no shows,” (I.E., not coming to a scheduled session without prior cancellation notice) a student will lose online scheduling rights and will need to meet with the Tutoring Coordinator or Director for future sessions to be scheduled online. In some cases, a student may lose their account privileges.
  • Consecutive Appointments: Students will be unable to book consecutive appointments with a tutor beyond one hour. Students may continue working with a tutor as a second, walk-in appointment, provided the time following their appointment is available.
