What if you could earn your undergraduate degree and, without leaving campus, add a Master of Arts in Teaching...
Education blends the liberal arts
with two targeted paths to
teacher certification
HEAD OF THE CLASS
It’s hard to not to be moved by what fuels many teachers: lighting a passion within young people and watching their potential blossom, all knowing your work is essential to a high-functioning society. Anyone who has cherished a teacher can imagine how it would feel to fill that role for the next generation.
Drew offers two pathways to teaching certification, based on the age of the students you want to teach. If you see yourself in a middle or secondary school, you can participate in our innovative five-year (4+1) Bachelor’s/Master’s degree.
The Drew program leads to a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree and provisional teaching certification in biology, chemistry, English, French, Italian, math, physics, Spanish, social studies or theatre arts. The focus is to train teachers who can prepare students for the challenges of our global age.
Students interested in elementary and special education teaching choose a major and work toward a teaching certification through Drew’s agreement with the nearby College of Saint Elizabeth, a four-minute drive from Drew.
The College of Saint Elizabeth has a long tradition of excellence in teacher education and students of their program are sought-after candidates for teaching and educational leadership positions.

For two years in a row, Drew MAT students have won the N.J. Department of Education’s Distinguished Student Teacher Award, honoring the state’s 15 most promising future educators.
Careers Made easy
pedagogical advantage
Drew’s five-year Bachelor/Master of Arts in Teaching program will give you an edge competing for middle and secondary school positions, since those who hold a master’s degree have greater job opportunities, receive higher salaries and have more paths to advancement.
Ninety-eight percent of students who completed the College of Saint Elizabeth’s programs for initial teacher certification passed the PRAXIS test required for licensure by the state of New Jersey.
Your certification can travel across state lines. Both the College of Saint Elizabeth’s education program and Drew’s MAT degree meet the professional requirements in all states that participate in the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification reciprocal certification agreement.
