About Civic Engagement

Civic Engagement at Drew University embodies values and practices that connect community-focused, experiential education across all of Drew’s Schools. Well-informed civic participation and the active pursuit of a just and humane society strengthen our democracy and the vibrant communities that make up its fabric. The planning, teamwork, and communications skills gained through civic engagement are also crucial to students entering a competitive job market. At Drew, integrated and collaborative civic engagement programs connect the educational mission of the university with action for the common good.

Community-Based Learning Classes

Community-Based Learning Classes

Community-Based Learning (CBL) classes foster the ability to connect academic learning with action in the world. At Drew, CBL classes embody our commitments to addressing community needs and strengthening community capacities that serve the common good. They require students to work off-campus with community organizations as part of the academic requirements of the class, thereby giving students practical experience that strengthens and extends classroom learning.

CBL classes for each semester are listed under the Civic Engagement heading in the course listings. These classes fulfill the Experiential Learning General Education requirement in theCollegeofLiberal Arts.
