Major: Psychology
Q. What prompted you to major in psychology?
A. I took the intro psychology course and although it was a bit challenging, I found all the topics to be very interesting. So I decided to pursue it.
Q. Are you doing research in psychology?
A. I’m in the advanced research methods course and will be starting experiments soon. I’m focusing on the effects of birth order on spatial tasks. I have just received approval so hopefully everything else will follow suit.
Q. Are there any professors at Drew who have been particularly influential?
A. Jessica Lakin is my adviser and I’ve worked with her as a research assistant. I think she’s an amazing person. If I need anything, I can go to her. Prof. Graham Cousens is probably the best professor. He makes the class so interesting. He specializes in learning and memory and although that’s not my favorite aspect of psychology, I’ve really enjoyed it.
Q. Do you know what you want to do once you leave Drew?
A. I would like to go to graduate school and ultimately become a clinical psychologist. I’m into the clinical aspects, such as therapy and I also really like working with children so hopefully I’ll work in that area.
Q. What would you tell a prospective student about the Drew experience?
A. Not only is the campus beautiful, but everyone makes you feel so welcome here. They make you feel like you’re a part of this well-knit community. If you’re interested in a smaller school, this is a wonderful place. They really help you find your own niche. If I need help, I can see my professors, they’re always around. You see the same people all the time so you develop closer friendships. I love that.
Q. What skills do you feel you’ve developed at Drew?
A. Mostly how to interact with people and feel comfortable trying different things. It’s so easy to stay in your comfort zone but Drew will help you get out there and poke your head around and see different aspects of everything.

"I conducted research on osmium complexes with Professor Mary-Ann Pearsall through the Drew Summer Science Institute. The DSSI is a summer research internship in which students work one-on-one with professors on full-time research projects. It’s a great opportunity to get your feet wet in a research setting."
