Drew University for 24 years has served as home to the New Jersey Governor’s School in the Sciences (NJGSS). This intensive, in-residence four-week summer program is targeted to academically talented high school students who have completed their junior year and show a strong interest in science.
Currently, there are six Governor's Schools statewide, each with a different emphasis. The curriculum stresses problem-solving, leadership training, team interaction and creative expression. NJGSS participants at Drew focus on subjects like chemistry, physics, mathematics, quantum mechanics, combinatorics and molecular orbital theory.
“The honor of hosting the Governor’s School in the Sciences is a great reflection on Drew’s academic excellence and the depth of the science activity that goes on here,” notes David Miyamoto, Professor of Biology and Director of the NJGSS. “It also testifies to our commitment to teaching bright and motivated students.”

"If I had written a personal ad seeking my ideal college, it would have read, “High school student seeks small, liberal arts school with excellent, personable professors; must have terrific political science and writing programs and a reputable student-run newspaper; close proximity to a major city essential.” Drew fits that description to a T."
