Clubs and Societies

Your college experience will be made up of many facets – both inside and outside the classroom. At Drew, a number of extracurricular groups and honors societies specific to the sciences provide opportunities for students who share interests to get together in a non-academic setting. They include:

Biology

The Drew Biology Department annually inducts academically qualified students into its chapter of Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta), a national biological honor society. Founded in 1922, TriBeta today has 430 chapters throughout the United States and in Puerto Rico. It is dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study, and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research.

Chemistry

Drew University Chemistry Society (DUCS) provides a forum for chemistry students get together outside of the classroom and to share their enthusiasm for chemistry with the rest of the Drew community. DUCS hosts campus-wide events, such as making ice cream with liquid nitrogen, and holds information sessions on the chemistry program for first- and second-year students.

Mathematics

Each May, the Drew Math Department inducts members into its active chapter of the Pi Mu Epsilon (PME) honor society. PME was founded in 1914 and currently has more than 300 chapters at colleges and universities throughout the United States. PME promotes scholarly activity in mathematics among the students in academic institutions.

Neuroscience

The Neuroscience Club at Drew has successfully registered its charter and soon will link to a national undergraduate neuroscience honor society. The club meets several times per semester.

Physics

The Drew Chapter of the Society of Physics Students is part of a national professional student association that provides each student with the opportunity to participate in the wider physics community. Drew’s chapter serves as a link between the faculty and students, and between the classroom and outside experiences. It has been selected an "Outstanding Chapter" numerous times in the last 10 years by the SPS National Office. The approximately 20-member organization sponsors a variety of activities throughout the year including student and invited talks, field trips, video series, and physics recruitment events. Its holiday taco party, and fall and spring picnics have become Drew traditions.

Organized within SPS is the nationally recognized scholastic honor society, Sigma Pi Sigma. The Drew chapter elects members to this society annually on the basis of outstanding academic performance.

Pre-Medical

All students, regardless of major, have full access to Drew University’s Pre-Med/Health Professions advising and support program.  All students also are welcomed into the Pre-Med Society, a student organization that organizes information sessions, practice MCAT tests, and speakers such as medical school admissions officers and medical research scientists.

Psychology

The Drew Psychology Club hosts speakers, social activities and community service events. Students form all disciplines and backgrounds who are interested in psychological issues are invited to attend.

Drew has a local chapter of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology, which was founded in 1929 to encourage, stimulate and maintain excellence in scholarship, and advance the science of psychology. Membership is open to academically qualified psychology majors.
