November 4: Accounting and Financial Management
Unfortunately we are entering a period where many mainline churches are under considerable financial pressure. This offering will discuss means of increasing church revenue while reducing expenses. Topics will include expense monitoring, long term planning for large ticket items, sharing expenses, purchasing energy, and reducing overhead. We will also touch on the theological elements of securing a sustainable financial future for local churches.
November 11: Managing Investments
The world of investment management has literally exploded in the last two decades making it very difficult for the local church pastor to stay current in the sea of different instruments and advice. Topics will include managing endowments, receiving gifts, wills, trusts, socially responsible investing, stocks, bonds and mutual funds, hedge funds and portfolio management. We will also discuss the theological implications of different types of investments.
November 18: Stewardship Campaigns
In many local churches the words “Stewardship Chair” can scatter parishioners faster than a fire alarm. We will cover the who, what and where of developing an effective campaign, pledging, the role secrecy, types of campaigns, using historical information and personal involvement. Affording stewardship opportunities is an important element in building disciples for Jesus Christ.
December 2: Maintaining the Physical Plant (Note: new date – rescheduled from November 25)
Maintaining a strong physical plant is critical to the ministries of the local church . Topics will include trustee responsibility, local authority interface, long term planning, insurance, neighbors, vandalism, poverty, and emergency plans. Many of our well maintained churches, simply by their presence, inspire hope in our communities.
