Please note: when entering campus, college freshmen will be moving into dormitories, severely limiting parking availability. All vehicle traffic must enter campus at the main Lancaster Road entrance. When stopped by Public Safety at this entrance, please inform the officer that you are a GDR student; you will be directed to the appropriate parking area in the Main Lot.
9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. It is suggested that new GDR students use this day to complete the following on campus tasks:

  • Obtain student ID card from Business Office (Tilghman House)
  • Obtain Parking decal (if needed) from Public Safety (must pay in Business Office in Tilghman House first)
  • Check with Financial Aid office (Tilghman House) if any further paperwork is needed.

2:00 – 4:30 p.m. Philosophical Iconography Tour Morningside Heights, New York City
GDR students, faculty and staff are invited to a tour of images of or relating to philosophers in some of the buildings of Morningside Heights, including the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the campus of Columbia University, and Riverside Church. Enjoy images of Plato, Marcus Aurelius, Erasmus, Averroes, Dante, Kant, Simone Weil, and also theologians Origen, Augustine, Luther, among many others. One of the buildings holds the memory of a philosophical ghost. Tour guide is theological librarian, Ernie Rubinstein. Meet on steps of Cathedral of St. John the Divine, at the south entrance, Amsterdam Ave and 112th St., at 2 pm. The tour should go till about 4:30. Refreshments planned afterwards for those who would like to linger longer together.
