Dr. Donald Hilliard, Jr. has served as Senior Pastor at the Cathedral International (The Historic Second Baptist Church) in Perth Amboy, New Jersey since 1983. Under his leadership, the church has grown by leaps and bounds both spiritually and numerically. Cathedral International was cited by the American Baptist Churches (USA) as a model for church growth. Consecrated as Bishop in 1995 by Bishop John R. Bryant, Dr. Hilliard is the Presiding Bishop and Founder of the Covenant Ecumenical Fellowship and Cathedral Assemblies (The Pastor’s Network). In this role, Bishop Hilliard serves as the advisor and mentor for several pastors, ministries, and churches across the United States and West Africa. Because of his heart for training pastors, and the burden that pastors carry, Dr. Hilliard established the Safe Harbor Clergy Leadership Conference where leaders from varied denominational backgrounds gather to confront and minister to various issues faced by clergy in their daily and ministerial lives.Dr. Hilliard,  was ordained by the Progressive National Baptist Convention in 1978. He is a graduate of Eastern College (Now Eastern University). He earned the Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, and the Doctorate of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary as a Samuel Dewitt Proctor Fellow. He has received training, and trained, some of North Americas most capable leaders.Dr. Hilliard is a true bridge builder who has successfully bridged the gap between the academy and the church. He is one who takes seriously the call for orthodoxy and orthopraxis. As a practitioner, Dr. Hilliard is a former member of the Yale University Center for Faith and Culture, former member of the Oxford University Round Table, and former visiting professor of Church Renewal at Drew University School of Theology, Madison, NJ. Dr. Hilliard is a captivating teacher as a frequent lecturer and group convener for universities and seminaries across the country. Currently, Dr. Hilliard is an active member of the Board of Directors at Somerset Christian College in Somerset, NJ. As an academician, Dr. Hilliard is the author of several books (Church Growth from an African American Perspective, Stop the Funeral, Faith in the Face of Fear: A Call to Courage in the Time of Trouble, Faith in the Face of Fear: A Christian Response to the 9/11 Attacks, In the Grip of His Mercy, A Lenten Journey: Lessons Learned in the Wilderness, Somebody Say Yes, Safe  Harbor Begins at Home, After the Fall). He is an active member in the Society of Pentecostal Studies. Dr. Hilliard is cited in a number of different journals and periodicals as he continuously “Says Yes” to God’s call throughout 30 years of ministry.
