Master of Divinity (M.Div.)

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or from an equivalent overseas institution.
  2. Transcripts for all academic study beyond secondary school.
  3. Statement of purpose by the applicant explaining the reasons and goals for pursuing the Master of Divinity degree.
  4. Two letters of reference from persons qualified to evaluate the applicant’s intellectual competence and promise as well as personal character and potential for ministry. One of the letters of reference must be from a religious leader.
  5. Although not required, applicants may request interviews with an admissions representative.
  6. International students have additional admissions requirements.

Master of Arts in Ministry (M.A.M.)

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or an approved international institution.
  2. Transcripts for all academic study beyond secondary school.
  3. Two letters of reference from persons qualified to evaluate the applicant’s intellectual competence and promise as well as personal character and potential for ministry. One of the letters of reference must be from a religious leader.

Master of Arts (M.A.)

  2. The student may choose to submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores to further indicate academic capabilities.
  3. Transcripts for all academic study beyond secondary school.
  4. An academic writing sample demonstrating the applicant’s ability to do graduate level research and composition.
  5. Two letters of reference from persons qualified to evaluate the applicant’s intellectual competence and promise.
  6. The completed application form must be accompanied by a statement of purpose, composed by the applicant and explaining the reasons and goals for pursuing the M.A. degree.
  7. International students have additional admissions requirements.

Master of Sacred Theology (S.T.M.)

  1. Applicants must hold the M.Div. (or first graduate theological degree providing equivalent theological background, or its educational equivalent) from an accredited theological school.
  2. Transcripts for all academic study beyond secondary school.
  3. Academic writing sample demonstrating the applicant’s ability to do graduate level research and composition.
  4. Two letters of reference from persons qualified to evaluate the applicant’s intellectual competence and promise.
  5. The completed application form must be accompanied by a statement of purpose, composed by the applicant and explaining the reasons and goals for pursuing the S.T.M. degree.
  6. Although not required, applicants may request interviews with an admissions representative.

Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.)

  1. Completed the M.Div. or its equivalent (defined as 84 credits of graduate theological education). Applicants with a two-year Masters plus additional theological education will be considered.See the Drew M.Div. Equivalence Template
  2. At least three years of full-time professional experience beyond their first theological degree.
  3. Engaged in a recognized ministerial position at the time of application.
  4. Writing sample in the form of a personal statement.
  5. E-mail capacity is required of all admitted students.
  6. Two letters of reference from persons qualified to evaluate the applicant’s intellectual competence and promise as well as ministry experience. One of the letters of reference must be from a religious leader.
  7. Transcripts for all academic study beyond secondary school.
  8. International students have additional admissions requirements.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

  1. In order to be considered for admission to Ph.D. programs in the Graduate Division of Religion, applicants must have a master’s degree or the equivalent.
  2. Applicants must submit transcripts for all academic study past secondary school.
  3. Applicants from the U.S. and Canada must submit a Graduate Records Examination (GRE) score no older than five years from the application date.  International students may substitute a TOEFL or IELTS score no older than two years from the application date in place of the GRE score.
  4. A personal statement describing the applicant’s personal and intellectual interests that have led him or her to the proposed field of study, and what directions those interests will take at Drew, preferably with reference to the specific faculty with whom he or she hopes to work.
  5. An academic writing sample, ordinarily an academic paper or essay.
  6. Two letters of recommendation. These should be from academic professors or persons familiar with the student’s academic ability and with the academic rigors of a graduate degree. They should comment on the critical thinking and writing skills, the research ability, and the general suitability of the applicant for graduate study.
  7. International students have additional admissions requirements.
  8. Students cannot be enrolled simultaneously in more than one school of the university, or in more than one program.

The Theological School offers various opportunities for individuals to enroll in courses without matriculating in a degree program: Unclassified: Students may enroll in up to (9) credits on campus without matriculating. Visitor: Students matriculating at another seminary may enroll in up to (9) credits for transfer. Online: Students may enroll in up to (9) credits online. Certification: Students may enroll in one of our certification programs. Community Fellow: Students may audit courses for no credit.
