The Doctor of Ministry Program at Drew is pleased to announce a new style of DMIN learning! Participants will work in an academic and mentoring relationship with Dr. Leonard Sweet and Bishop Donald Hilliard to review, reform, and revision, a personal style and approach to ministry through preaching. Through three intensive courses candidates will be exposed to cutting edge thinking on preaching and transformation of the church.

| Dr. Donald Hilliard, Jr. has served as Senior Pastor at the Cathedral International (The Historic Second Baptist Church) in Perth Amboy, New Jersey since 1983. Under his leadership, the church has grown by leaps and bounds both spiritually and numerically. Cathedral International was cited by the American Baptist Churches (USA) as a model for church growth. Consecrated as Bishop in 1995 by Bishop John R. Bryant, Dr. Hilliard is the Presiding Bishop and Founder of the Covenant Ecumenical Fellowship and Cathedral Assemblies (The Pastor’s Network). In this role, Bishop Hilliard serves as the advisor and mentor for several pastors, ministries, and churches across the United States and West Africa. Because of his heart for training pastors, and the burden that pastors carry, . more. | Author of more than two hundred articles, 1000 published sermons and almost fifty books. Dr. Sweet often appears on the “50 Most Influential Christians in America” list, and in 2010 was selected by the top non-English Christian website as one of the “Top 10 Influential Christians of 2010:” http://www.christiantelegraph.com/issue11870.html. His popular weekly podcast called “Napkin Scribbles” is widely used and quoted. Dr. Sweet’s microblogs on twitter and facebook are ranked as some of the most influential social media sites in the world. DMIN 907 Creative Homiletics: Preaching for Kardia, Kairos, Kainos
Post-modernity and globalization are rapidly changing the world and church culture. Today, people attend churches where they can feel and hear God. Many traditional churches are outmoded and fail to attract and reach the iPad, iPhone, iPod generation. This course seeks to prepare pastors for preaching in that iCentury Church. Students will tackle topics that deal with the heart of the preacher (Kardia), the cultural context and God’s timing (Kairos) and address congregational transformation (Kainos) through preaching (Kerygma). Participants will have a consultation to closely examine their ministry of preaching in the context of their ministry setting. Rebooting one’s message with new vitality and approach is the goal. Faculty: Dr. Sweet
Summer Intensive Session at Drew
The Drew Doctor of Ministry program requires a three-week residency on campus. The summer session at Drew their first year in the program will allow candidates to pursue elective interests to supplement their preaching focus. July 15- August 2, 2013
Second and Third Year: The Project Phase
A unique facet of this DMIN concentration is that, during the project phase of the program, the cohort will collaborate to produce a book that includes as part of their ministry project a “rebooted” sermon contribution in an edited collection. Bishop Hilliard will be the general editor for the volume and Len Sweet will give the overview of the joint component of the project phase in a Forward. The Project Colloquium (begins fall of second year). Development of Topic Outline for doctoral proposal online (Sept.) followed by a two-day workshop on proposal development with faculty advisers (Oct.), leading to a professional project and doctoral thesis. - Currently $466 per credit hour or approximately $1,400/course
