Since earning his PhD in theology in 1965 Charles McCollough has flourished as an artist and an author. This summer saw the publication of his eighth book, The Non-Violent Radical: Seeing and Living the Wisdom of Jesus. Sculpting in clay, bronze, wood, and stone, McCollough articulates a dense post-colonial understanding of the wisdom of Jesus’ sayings in the gospels in words and images. Contextualizing Jesus’ wisdom in the political and economic world of the Roman Empire, McCollough foregrounds the social and political messages inherent in Jesus’ ministry and calls us all to personal growth and social action.
The work is illustrated with sixty images of McCollough’s original art, which are available for use in private reflection, worship, and educational settings. In addition, readers may use the images for newsletters, church bulletins, and program announcements. A DVD with color images of many more illustrations of the book is available from the author.
Congratulations, Charles, on your outstanding achievement!—Shelley L. Dennis, GDR Graduate Student Intern.
