Come & join us!
The Seminary Saturdays program at Drew offers churches and individuals the opportunity to gain perspectives beyond the local church. Each Saturday morning session offers one workshop on a practical topic and one on a theological topic. Individual workshops are $25 per person. Seminarians may attend at not cost. Each Saturday will begin with a continental breakfast from 8:30 – 9:00 a.m. and will conclude with soup and sandwiches from 12 – 1:00 p.m. ALL ARE WELCOME!
Schedule of Presentations for April 4, 2009 (Choose One):
"Women in Leadership"
Maxine Clarke Beach, Dean of the Theological School
At the turn of the last century only 850 women were identified in encyclopedias as famous or infamous for the 2000 years prior. They were queens, politicians, mothers, wives, mistresses, beauties and religious figures. Most did not get to leadership on their own but through the death or the influence of a man. Certainly the last 108 years have produced more categories of women in leadership but the struggle for equality remains elusive. This workshop will allow us to take stock of our place in this process within the church and our work place as well as the changes in our roles in family. Of particular interest is a discussion of how women are different in leadership and if that makes a difference.
"Sarai & Hagar"
Danna Nolan Fewell, Professor of Hebrew Bible
