About Dean Beach
Maxine Beach came to Drew as Dean of the Theological School in 2000. Her office is in Seminary Hall 102.
Dean Beach gives both academic and administrative oversight to the work of the school. Much of her work involves external relations with other parts of the university, trustees, alumni/ae, the Theological School Advisory Board, denominational bodies and the wider academic community. This includes membership on the University Senate of the United Methodist Church, executive committee of the World Methodist Council, and executive committee of the International Association of Methodist Schools, Colleges, and Universities.
Prior to coming to Drew she was Associate General Secretary of the General Council on Ministries of the United Methodist Church. She also served as Vice President and Chief Academic Officer at United Theological School and was the first director of the Scarritt-Bennett Center. Her Masters degree is from Harvard Divinity School and her Ph.D. is from Boston University.
She teaches in the Hebrew Bible department of the school and also enjoys a senior retreat each spring with graduating students.
She enjoys traveling with her husband of 41 years and particularly enjoys time with her 8 grandchildren.
