Drew @ Ocean Grove: Prophetic Leadership
What kind of leadership is needed to open a shalom zone?
Prophetic leadership in the congregation and community!
“Seek the shalom of the city, where I have sent you,
for in it’s shalom you will find your shalom.” --Jeremiah 29:1
Drew @ Ocean Grove in 2008 is a one-week course on five components of prophetic leadership, applied to contemporary congregational and community contexts: 1) Prophetic Calling; 2) Knowing the Tradition; 3) Interpreting the Present Situation; 4) Projecting the Future; and 5) Seeking Shalom. This program serves as the official launch event of the new Communities of Shalom Initiative at Drew University.
Program focus:
What kind of leadership is required for prophetic ministry in the congregation and community? What actions are required to seek the shalom of the city of God, according to the prophet Jeremiah (Jeremiah 29:1)?
According to Herbert Huffmon, Professor of Old Testament at Drew University, “Only God can call someone as a prophet, but we can ourselves be prophetic in service to God. A prophetic leader is grounded in a critical assessment of the tradition, can insightfully analyze the present situation, and can be innovative and adaptive in projecting the future. Such a leader strives for shalom--peace and justice that surpasses our imagination.”
Drew Week begins with Sunday Night Worship in the Great Auditorium with Rev. Paul S. Moore, Founding President of CitiHope International, and musician Ken Medema from San Francisco. It continues through the week with five morning sessions, three afternoon workshops, plus a special midweek evening concert with Ken Medema on the themes of the week. The daily schedule allows for beach and boardwalk time and evening reflection. Academic credit or continuing education credits (CEUs) are available.
