Drew University students in New YorkThe Global Village LLC houses international and domestic students living together and sharing in-class experiences. This exciting community’s home will be in Brown Residence Hall.

Tolley/Brown Residence Hall is an all first year student residence hall. The Global Village in Brown encompasses two distinct programs that students may join:

- American Pop Culture Floor and Class, Brown 2nd Floor
- International Experience Floor and College Seminar, Brown 1st Floor

All students in the Global Village may participate in special programming opportunities, including workshops, trips, and events. Students will expand their global competency skills by increasing their cross cultural abilities.  Faculty, Peer Mentors, and Residence Life Staff will lead students in expanding their global competency skills both in the classroom, residence hall, and neighboring areas. Check out the international student experience by clicking here: International students at Drew University.

Examples of the potential events may be:

  • Trips to New York City attractions such as museums, landmarks, and festivals
  • Celebrations of different holiday traditions
  • Opportunities to participate in international programming on campus including, International Week, Study Abroad Fairs, Foreign Film Festival, Forum Lectures, and many more events!
  • American and other cultural experiences explored via world viewpoints

The American Pop Culture Floor will consist of first year international and domestic students living together on Brown 2nd Floor.  Students will take a four-credit class titled American Popular Culture. Faculty will spend time with students, both in the classroom and in the residence hall.  Shared trips and experiences will contribute to these first year participants accelerating their global competencies, while also exploring American Culture in exciting new ways.

The International Experience Floor will be tied to one of three First Year Seminar classes.  Although all first year students are required to take a College Seminar in their first semester, these three classes will be linked with the students living together on the same floor on Brown 1st Floor.  Residents of Global Village will benefit from living in the community by gaining a broader awareness of global issues.
