Leaving after Fall semester

  • Students who are leaving the university for any reason after the Fall semester should read this information.

Winter Break

  • For important dates, please check the Academic Calendar.Break begins at the conclusion of the fall term. CLA residence halls will close on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at noon.
  • All CLA residents are required to vacate their halls by this time–failure to do so may result in a fine.
  • Resident Assistants will distribute Winter Break Closing information in late November or early December. Please review the checklist below for an overview of what you must complete before leaving campus.
    • Before you leave make sure to…
      • Unplug everything. (This includes your refrigerator)
      • Dispose of all perishable foods
      • Empty your trash cans and recycling bins
      • Take home your pets (non-meat eating fish of course)
      • Turn off your heat and lights
      • Close and lock your windows.
      • Zero and First Floors, make sure your blinds are closed.
        Second and Third Floors, make sure your blinds are open
  • After the halls close, Residence Life staff members will conduct Health and Safety Inspections in every room and bathroom inspections in Riker, the Theme Houses, and the Suites.
  • Any illegal items will be confiscated and held in the Office of Residence Life.
  • All confiscated items may be picked up from the Office of Residence Life at the end of each semester.
  • If you need to reside on-campus during Winter Break, please fill out the Winter Interim Housing Application by December 11, 2015.  For more information, contact Bob Meade at 973-408-3681.
  • Residence Halls will reopen on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at noon.

January Term Housing (JanTerm)

  • January Term Housing begins during the first week of January and is open to Drew students who are working on their academic internships, approved independent study, honors work, volunteerism, international students, athletes approved by the Athletic Department, students employed by the University during January and students enrolled in a program at Saint Elizabeth College.
  • Applications are available from the Office of Residence Life and Housing in late November and are due in early December. Please follow the directions and deadlines on the application to ensure a January Term Housing spot.
  • Each year, certain halls on campus are designated as the host for JanTerm Housing. The University chooses only 1 or 2 halls for JanTerm Housing in an effort to follow the campus sustainability efforts–as it takes  less energy to heat and power 2 residence halls instead of 15.
  • If your residence hall is chosen for housing JanTerm students–you are required to turn in your room keys at the end of the Fall semester. Failure to do so will result in a lock change for your room that will be charged to your student account. Also, you are required to remove all linens from your bed, clear off your desk, empty half of your dresser and clear half of your closet for the JanTerm student who will be staying there.
  • For move-in times, locations and information regarding JanTerm Housing–please contact the Office of Residence Life and Housing  at 973-408-3394.
  • JanTerm residents are required to leave the room in the condition that they entered the room. They may be charged for any cleaning or damages found in the room.

 Spring Break

  • Spring Break begins on a Friday  March 3, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Residence Halls re-open on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at NOON. Please refer to the Academic Calendar for exact dates.

  • During Spring Break closing, Residence Life staff members will be conducting Health and Safety Inspections in every room and bathroom inspections in Riker, the Theme Houses, and the Suites.
  • Any illegal items will be confiscated and held in the Office of Residence Life or your Residence Director’s (RD) Office.
  • All confiscated items may be picked up from the Office of Residence Life or your Residence Director’s (RD) Office.at the end of each semester.
  • If you need to reside on campus during Spring Break–Fill out the Spring Break 2017 or  contact the Housing Coordinator at 973-408-3681.
  • Residence halls re-open at noon on the Sunday after Spring Break, Sunday, March 13, 2016

End of Year Move-out

  • All students not graduating are expected to move-out 24 hours after your last exam. Here is the check-list for the end of the year.
  • Residence Halls close at NOON on Thursday, May 11, 2017 for non-graduates.
  • If you are graduating, or have been approved to stay and work graduation, residence halls close after graduation on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.

Thanksgiving Break

  • CLA Residence Hall wills close on November 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. for Thanksgiving Break.
  • All CLA residents are required to vacate their halls by this time–failure to do so may result in a fine.
  • If CLA residents would like to stay, the Thanksgiving Break Application (below) needs to be filled out by November 18, 2016.
  • Check-out and Thanksgiving Break information will be distributed by Resident Assistants. Please use the checklist below:

  • Residence Halls will re-open the Sunday, November 27, 2016, at noon.

Thanksgiving Break Housing

To accommodate the needs of our students, break housing is offered to those who need to stay on campus. The following steps should be taken:

  • The Thanksgiving Break Application needs to be filled out by November 18, 2016.
  • Students who have completed the Thanksgiving Break Housing Application will be permitted to stay in their current rooms, however, if there are insufficient numbers of other students also staying in your residence hall, you will be relocated to Tolley or Brown.  This measure if for your safety and security and you will be notified prior to Wednesday, November 16th should the need occur for you to relocate.
  • The cost of housing is $220 for non-INTO students.  For INTO students the cost of Thanksgiving Housing is covered in the cost of your housing so there is no charge, however, you must complete the Application.
  • You will be held responsible for any damage to the residence hall that occurs from Wednesday, November 23, 2016 through Sunday, November 27, 2016.
  • If you are relocated to Tolley or Brown you must move back to your permanent fall assignment by 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27th and return your key to the Residence Life Office (EC) by Monday, Nov. 28, 2016.
  • No overnight guests are permitted during Thanksgiving Break.
  • All rules in Daniel’s Dictionary are in effect during Thanksgiving Break.
