President's Message Regarding the Middle States Commission on Higher Education Evaluation, 2/8/17.
Dear Members of the Campus Community,
Late last semester we received our final evaluation on our 2016 Periodic Review Report (PRR) from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and the outcome is a good as we could have hoped! The Commission reaffirmed our accreditation and commended the institution for the quality of the PRR and the quality of the process.
As we expected given the financial challenges the University has experienced over the past few years, the Commission requested a monitoring report, due October 1, 2017, “documenting further development and implementation of a financial planning and budgeting process aligned with the institution’s mission and goals, and a plan that provides for an annual budget and multi-year budget projections.” I fully expect that we will have no problem producing the required information by next October since our CFO, John Vitali, and his team, have already been working hard to bring our budgeting and planning activities in line with institutional best practices.
I am also happy to report that the Commission issued no recommendations on which we must act, beyond the monitoring report. This is very impressive, given some 70 recommendations that we were required to respond to in the PRR. Such a result would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of faculty and staff across the institution who put in place the structures, policies and procedures required to bring us into compliance with Middle States standards. Thanks to all of you who participated in these efforts.
In particular, I want to recognize Deb Liebowitz, PRR Chair, and the Steering Committee for their herculean efforts on this project. Member of the Steering Committee include: Chris Apelian, Gamin Bartle, Wendy Kolmar, Steph Mazzarella, Alex McClung, Renee Lischin, Barb Bresnahan and Marti Winer. The hard work and dedication of this group was evident throughout the process and was instrumental to achieving such a positive result.
We are happy to share all of the documents related to the review with those in the Drew community. Copies of all materials will be made available via the Dean’s Offices of the CLA, Caspersen and Theological Schools.
