Discussion to Demystify Health Care Reform
MADISON, NJ--Members of the community who want to learn more about Washington DC’s hotly debated health care reforms are invited to participate in Drew University’s “Demystifying the Health Care Debate,” an informal discussion led by two of the school’s faculty. The October 26 event, which will feature Professors Jennifer Kohn and Philip Mundo, will address the ramifications of reform on the individual, the trade-offs between price and quality, and the cost of universal coverage.
Professor of Political Science Philip Mundo joined the Drew faculty in 1986 after earning a PhD from the University of California - Berkeley. His main areas of expertise are American politics and public policy, and his current research focuses on energy and the environment. He is the author of two books: “Interest Groups: Cases and Characteristics” and “National Politics in a Global Economy.” Several of his undergraduate courses on U.S. public policy deal with health care issues-the same ones that are now fodder for debate in congress.
Jennifer Kohn is an assistant professor of economics and business studies. She joined the Drew faculty this fall after earning a doctorate in finance and economics from Rutgers. Her prior positions include consumer advocate for NJPIRG and the NYC Department of Consumer Affairs, and senior administrator for the Division of Cardiology at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Cornell Medical Center. She teaches courses on the economics of health care and conducts research on health care finance, both of which have informed her views on the current debate.
“Demystifying the Health Care Debate” will begin at 7:00 p.m. in room 28 of Drew’s Learning Center. Light refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m. For more information, please call Jennifer Kohn at 973/408-3409 or e-mail jkohn@drew.edu.
