Drew University, Local Law Enforcement Seek Information on Assault
During the early morning hours of Sunday, March 22, 2009, a female Drew student was assaulted while unlocking her dorm room door. Her quick thinking and decisive actions enabled her to push the attacker out of her room and secure the door, keeping him from entering. The Drew community is grateful that no serious physical harm came to the student and asks for the public’s assistance in identifying the attacker.
The individual was described as a white male, approximately 20 years old, with black hair, wearing a black button down shirt and blue jeans. Anyone with any information should call Morris County Crime Stoppers at (973) COP-CALL. No one will ask your name. If the information you provide leads to the arrest or indictment of the responsible individual, you will receive up to a $1,000 cash reward.
Drew University has a strong relationship with local law enforcement and is cooperating fully with their investigation of this incident. Drew University’s Department of Public Safety has reminded students to be alert, walk with friends, keep their doors locked and not allow strangers into their residence halls. While Drew remains a very safe place to live and learn, the university is increasing security in and around the dormitories and is encouraging students to contact public safety if they see anyone or anything suspicious.
