“Prospects” is Jason Karolak’s third show at McKenzie Fine Art in four years.

October 2017 – When not teaching at Drew University, Jason Karolak is showing his art at New York City galleries.

Karolak, an assistant professor of art, just had his third show at McKenzie Fine Art in the past four years. “Prospects” featured 15 paintings made in oil on linen surfaces. The work was inspired in part by the writing of Ralph Waldo Emerson, whose essay, “Nature,” included a chapter titled “Prospects.”

Reflecting on the show, Karolak said that the “vocabulary has become more distilled and direct. The paintings have a backlit, graphic punch, but when encountered in person, the scale and handmade surface bring another reading to the work.” Here’s a closer look at some of the pieces, all of which are untitled.
