Caspersen and Drew graduates, now writers, give back.

August 2017 – All of the instructors at this year’s Sentences 9 writing conference at Drew University’s Caspersen School of Graduate Studies have Drew roots.

Before they became writers, playwright Kathryn Grant and author Mark Jacobs studied at Caspersen, earning doctorates in 2006 and 1987, respectively. Similarly, acclaimed writers William Giraldi, Damon DiMarco and Dale Peck earned bachelor’s at Drew in 2001, 1993 and 1989, respectively. This year, they all returned to The Forest to teach everything from plot and character development to how to use dialogue and achieve narrative fluency.

Instruction came in many forms, including lectures, workshops, readings and one-on-ones. Here’s a closer look at the five-day conference.
