Drew is among just 321 schools in the highly selective guide.

Notes proximity to NYC and dedication to hands-on learning.

July 2017 – Drew University is once again featured in the Fiske Guide to Colleges, a highly selective guide to exceptional schools in North America and the U.K.

The 2018 edition of Fiske includes just 321 schools, based on factors such as academic quality and selectivity.

Drew’s 2 ½-page description notes its proximity to New York City, woodsy campus, experienced professors, standout programs—including the Center for Civic Engagement, international seminars and Research Institute for Scientists Emeriti—and “emphasis on hands-on learning, research, independent studies and internships.”

Perhaps most revealing, though, are quotes from students, on everything from the classroom experience and international studies to campus life. Here are the four best student quotes.

  • “The courses are competitive and collaborative. Professors bring in experience and new perspectives and expect students to challenge themselves.”
  • “[International] seminars are a great way of learning firsthand about a country and experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime chance to put your education into practice.”
  • “It’s easy to get involved, make friends and feel like you make a difference.”
  • “A culture of understanding, open-mindedness and acceptance is the Drew culture.”

Fiske, now in its 34th year, is compiled by Edward Fiske, a former education editor at The New York Times. It’s available in print, online—via CollegeCountdown.com—and as an iPad app on iTunes.
