Commencement Speaker, Honorary Degree Recipient Announced
Rob Franek, publisher of the Princeton Review, and Madison Mayor Bob Conley join us on May 16.
Citing his continued support of Drew University, its mission and its students, President MaryAnn Baenninger and the Board of Trustees are proud to announce that Madison Mayor Robert “Bob” Conley has been chosen to receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters at this year’s commencement ceremony on May 16, 2015.
Conley served on the Madison Borough Council for two terms before running for mayor and has been instrumental in maintaining the positive town-and-gown relationship between Madison and Drew. He has welcomed incoming first-year students, helped coordinate Drew’s participation in Bottle Hill Day, worked closely with Drew presidents and participated in the Chief Executive Council for Madison, of which former Drew President Vivian A. Bull was a founding member.
“It is our great pleasure to award Mayor Conley with this honorary degree at this year’s commencement,” said President Baenninger. “He has been a true partner and friend to the university and the honor is well deserved.”
Baenninger also announced that Robert J. Franek, senior vice president and publisher of The Princeton Review, a Class of ’93 Drew alumnus and trustee, will be this year’s commencement speaker.
Franek is a sought-after speaker, television commentator and expert in helping students find the right college. As the senior vice president and publisher of The Princeton Review, he is the lead author of “The Best 379 Colleges.” He is also a beloved Drew alumnus and trustee who majored in political science and history, was active in Drew’s Improv Comedy Group and took part in the London Semester.
This year’s commencement will be held on May 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m., on the Mead Hall Lawn. Graduates will make their traditional procession from the Simon Forum to the lawn, led by a bagpiper and drummer.
