This page will provide updates on the status of library and instructional technology services within the university’s COVID-19 response. This information is current as of Thursday, April 15, 2021 and is subject to change at any time.

  • Use library chat for library help. Chat hours: Monday-Thursday, 9am-7pm, and Friday, 9am-5pm. Questions may be sent via email to reference@drew.edu. Library staff will respond to queries when Library services are available.
  • For your personal use/research, if you need:
    • A book or journal article that Drew may have electronically, check ScholarSearch.
    • Book chapter(s), or articles from  journals that Drew only has in print format, use Request for Material ScanScans of over 150 pages will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Within 2-3 business days you will be notified by email whether we can fill a given request of this length.
    • To check out a book from the Library collection, use the Drew Loan pickup request form.
    • A journal article or essay in a book that Drew does not own use Interlibrary Loan.
    • A book that Drew does not own, use Library Resources Request Form. We will determine whether purchasing an ebook, digitizing a print copy, or purchasing a print copy is the best option.  Within 2-3 business days you will be notified by email advising how we will fill your request.

  • If you need resources in lieu of reserve to place on Moodle:
    • Chapter(s) or articles from journals that Drew only has in print format use Request for Material Scan.
    • To request a digitized version of an entire work, regardless of whether Drew owns a physical copy, use the  Library Resources Request Form. We will determine whether purchasing an ebook, digitizing a print copy, or purchasing a print copy for scanning is the best option.
    • For requests that we cannot acquire as ebooks, we will explore whether we are able to scan a physical copy of the work. Requests that exceed 150 pages will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Given staff availability and volume of requests, we cannot guarantee timely fulfillment of these requests. Instructors may need to pursue alternatives. We will make every effort to communicate the estimated fulfillment date within 2-3 days of your request.

Building Access: Beginning on January 20th the Library will be providing study tables by appointment. To see availability and book an appointment visit drew.mywconline.com and select the schedule called “Library Study Tables – Spring 2021.” The Methodist Archives building remains closed until further notice. Although building access remains limited, your library and instructional technology colleagues will continue to support the university community with a range of services to enable and enhance teaching and learning.

Access to Information Resources:

  • See drew.edu/library for remote access to electronic resources, including journal articles and e-books. For instructions, refer to the Remote User Services page. Instructors are encouraged to replace physical resources with digital resources where possible, using materials that are available in the library’s full-text databases or that are freely available online. Library resources can be linked directly from Moodle. Use the Library Resource Request Form or the Media Resource Request Form to submit requests for course-related materials.
  • DVT and COVID-19 Resources (LibGuide): This guide compiles newly available resources, either by trial or offered by vendors to aid in remote and online teaching and learning. Contact kjuliano@drew.edu or your subject librarian for further information
  • Drew University has access to a variety of primary source databases that can be accessed online. These are accessible through the Primary Sources Guide (PDF), Online Primary Resources (LibGuide),  or through the alphabetical list of resources available on the Drew library website. (Licensed resources require a Drew University log-in).

Research Help and Consultation: Start with the Ask a Librarian page for Zoom appointments and open office hour schedules. If the chat service is offline, forward your question via email, and we will reply as soon as we are able. Note that Library Chat is also available from Moodle. Library Reference Materials: During spring semester 2021, the Library’s print Reference Collection may be used in the Library by appointment. Please do the following to use print Reference materials:
  1. Reserve a study table in the Library by going HERE.  During the semester, study tables are available M-Th, 9AM-8PM and F 9AM-5PM.
  2. Contact Circulation services (email: library@drew.edu) to request specific Reference items of interest and to provide the date and time you are scheduled to be in the Library. The materials should be available at the Library when you arrive for your reserved time. NOTE: High demand items may require as much advance notice as possible.
  3. Can’t come to the Library but still need Reference materials? Please email reference@drew.edu and we will explore other possible alternatives.

Library Instruction: For consultation on integrating digital sources into courses, to schedule a Library instruction session, or to plan library assignments designed for on-site and remote learners, please either contact your Library subject liaison (if known) or use this form to submit your request. A librarian will be in touch soon to offer assistance.

Circulation and Reserves:

  • Any outstanding library materials you have can be returned to the tan book drop by the library’s entrance. To renew any outstanding library materials, login to “my library account” and select the items you wish to renew. If you have any questions or are unable to renew an item, please email library@drew.edu.
  • If you would like to request a scan of a chapter or article from a Drew-owned item, use the Request for Material Scan form. Refer to the bullet points above for more detailed information.
  • If you are requesting a digitized version of a work, please use the Library Resource Request Form. Refer to the bullet points above for more detailed information. 
  • To request streaming or digitzed films, use the Media Resource request form, and see new policies here
  • Capacity to process holds and recalls may be limited depending on conditions at the university and the availability of Library staff. Contact Circulation: library@drew.edu or (973) 408-3486

Inter-Library Loan: During the spring semester we will process requests for articles and book chapters that can be fulfilled electronically. We will also attempt to supply eBooks when possible, but cannot guarantee these requests will be filled. For patrons living on or near campus, physical loan requests will be available on a limited basis. Please review the ILL book request form for more details about requesting physical loans.

If you have any outstanding Interlibrary Loan books from last Spring, please return these as soon as possible. Returned ILLs can be placed in the book drop or shipped to the library. You can direct any questions about ILL books to ill@drew.edu.

Special Collections and Archives: During Drew’s move to virtual business operations, the Methodist Archives building and Wilson Reading Room will be closed to the public. Remote services are available to faculty, students, and researchers during this time. This includes scanning of items from Special Collections, University Archives, and the Methodist Library as well as research assistance via email. You can also set up a virtual consultation to integrate archival and primary source content into remote courses, schedule an instruction session for your remote class, and plan assignments or research projects for remote learners. Drew also has a number of online primary source databases that are available to all students and faculty. Printing:

  • There is one printer available in the library lobby that students can use to print from their personal computer. Instructions for adding this printer are available here: https://uknow.drew.edu/confluence/display/Library/Printing+in+the+Library
  • You will need to be connected to the drew1x network (Net ID username and password to connect) and instructions must be followed carefully.
  • Try to set up the connection prior to coming to the library, and be sure not to wait until the last minute to print.
  • Printing does not work from phones or flash drives.
  • Call the helpdesk (973-408-4357) to assist with any troubleshooting in connecting to the printer.
