Responsibilities of Science Librarian:

  1. Promote use of digital and print resources by providing outreach and instruction in natural sciences:
    1. Provide instructional support to courses in the sciences and Medical Humanities, especially in those with a literature research component, and promote the inclusion of such components in coursework
    2. Build strong relationships with faculty and students within liaison departments to facilitate awareness of resources
    3. Promote and deliver services and instruction through online tutorials, library course web pages, social media, and other technologies
    4. Explore emerging technologies in support of science education
    5. Provide in-depth research consultations to undergraduates, Medical Humanities and science and math faculty.
    6. Serve as library liaison to science honor societies
    7. Work with RISE program
  2. Provide science-related collection development:
    1. Make recommendations concerning Reference science material
    2. Work with science faculty to provide materials in all formats to support the curriculum
    3. Monitor accreditation standards
    4. Work with science faculty to monitor journal usage
  3. Support Library users through the work of the Reference and Research Services Department:
    1. Participate in staffing the Reference Desk (physical and virtual), including one evening a week and rotating Sunday evening
    2. Participate in departmental planning and outreach
    3. Participate in active collaboration with other University units such as Instructional Technology, Student Activities and the Writing Center
    4. Participate in the design and implementation of assessment of student development of information literacy skills
    5. Participate in providing general instruction through the College Seminar and College Writing programs
  4. Support the Library’s use of digitization and other technologies.
  5. Serve as a member of the Library Faculty.
