What is Google Scholar and Why Would I Use it?
Are you or your students struggling to find scholarly material on interdisciplinary and/or esoteric topics? Unlike regular “Google” search, Google Scholar covers only what it considers “scholarly” material, mostly journal articles and conference publications and course materials, and Google Books. Some of these materials are available freely online through journals or ‘open access’ programs, some of which are accessible to Drew users through our Library subscriptions. In addition to providing keyword searching of titles and abstracts, Google Scholar has citation searching and tracking features and email alert functionality.
We’ll discuss what areas Google Scholar covers well, the best ways to search it, and useful features. We’ll also look at Google Books vs. HathiTrust.
