A Technology Integrated Learning Environment can take many forms on Drew’s campus. In some instances, we take a traditional classroom or learning space and infuse it with technology. In other cases, the room is designed and built with technology in mind. Most rooms have a podium/cabinet at the front of the room that houses equipment, an LCD projector, and a motorized screen or whiteboard to project on. In some classrooms, additional features include adjustable lighting, moveable seating, an integrated sound system, and SmartBoards.
In addition to all this, many of our TILEs have a Crestron control system installed. This enables the instructor to interact with all of the technology components from a single touch screen installed on top of the cabinet. There’s no juggling multiple remotes, hunching over to see what’s going on inside the cabinet, or trying to make sure things turn on while you’re trying to interact with the class! The Crestron touch panels make the entire room easier to use so the instructor can focus on what they came there to do; teach!
The equipment in each classroom offer a powerful and stable environment that is flexible enough to meet any needs an instructor may have.
- Pentium Core2 Duo Lenovo ThinkCentre Desktops with Windows XP Professional.
- The Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, and many other software applications.
- LCD data projectors.
- VHS and DVD units plus a DVD drive in the computer.
All rooms are covered by the wireless network, and some have one network jack per seat to enable students to use their laptops in class. Each classroom is also equipped with a campus phone and usage/troubleshooting documentation in case of difficulty. There are TILEs in every classroom style including auditorium, lecture, seminar, studio, and lab.
