Collaboration and Note-taking Apps

Evernote- This is a note taking App that allows students to share notebooks with one another. This App allows users to sync their content with multiple devices by storing the information in the cloud.

Adobe Reader- This is a free App available in the iTunes store, it allows you to download PDFs from the internet through Dropbox or Google Drive. You can annotate and highlight the PDFs as you read through them and save them back to either Google Drive or Dropbox. They can be accessed from any computer or device.

Dropbox/Google Drive- There are two free storage Apps that allow you to store documents and access them from any device or computer.

Creation Apps

Skitch- Free App that can work along with Evernote or it can be used to create materials for your course on its own. It allows you to annotate on Maps, web pages and photos.

Educreations- Works as a whiteboard and records audio. This can be used to create videos for your course and can be embedded into Moodle or any LMS system.

Presentation Apps

Slideshark- This is an App that allows you to store your PowerPoint file on the cloud. This makes it easy to access them with an iPad or any other mobile device.

Prezi- This is an App that compliments the Web 2.0 tool, Prezi. It allows you to access your Prezis with your iPad and make small edits to them.

Web 2.0 Workshops

Wikispaces- This service is a free alternative way, to a traditional Learning Management System, to create course material for online learning. A wiki can be used to design different types of learning tools such as Webquests, portfolios and other course related material. Wikispaces can allow students to collaborate on assignments by editing page live, this enables students to read and build on each other’s work.

Prezi-Is a more creative and interesting way to demonstrate slide presentations, it is created on one giant canvas rather than multiple slides. The zoom feature on this tool allows the presenter to focus on one topic at a time, and navigate through each topic using motion. Along with the web based tool there is a free “App” that has been developed for IPad that allows you to perform basic edits and actually present your presentation from the IPad. Since Prezi is a Web based application students and teachers do not have to worry about storage issues.

Flipping Your Course

If you have heard the phrase “Flipping your class,” and are interested in finding out whether this concept would suit your course, come to this workshop to find out! Flipping a class means basically turning it inside-out. Students work on the content on their own so that face to face class time is reserved for problem-solving and working with the content. Let us show you how to package and provide materials to your students using technology so that they can access everything easily and conveniently, freeing you up to use the class time the way you’d like.
