Plan for Career Success
First Year Students
- Visit the Center for Internships and Career Development. Make an appointment with a career counselor to explore possible majors and career options through career counseling and career assessments.
- If you are having problems with a course, ask for tutoring help.
- Get involved with a sport, club, or volunteer organization.
- Explore part-time jobs or community service work. Even a few hours per week with help you develop new skills.
- Visit the Center for Internships and Career Development to learn about internships opportunities for next year.
- Create a resume and cover letter and have them reviewed by the Center for Internships and Career Development.
- Work on your computer skills. Strong computer skills are useful in every career.
- Attend career panels and information sessions sponsored by the Center for Internships and Career Development.

Sophomores
- Explore possible majors and career options through a career counseling appointment and career assessments.
- Develop career-related experience through jobs, volunteer work, or internships. Make an appointment to discuss your options.
- Explore study abroad or special semesters in the U.S.
- Update your resume or write your first one and have it reviewed by a Career Counselor. Get help with your cover letter.
- Attend career panels and information sessions.
- Continue involvement with sports, clubs, or volunteer work. Learn about leadership opportunities within these organizations.

Juniors
- Meet with a Career Counselor. Discuss your ideas about career possibilities. Develop a plan to learn more.
- Apply for an internship. Ask for help in understanding how the program works and how to choose your internship.
- Find part-time or summer jobs that will give you career-related skills.
- Review possible graduate or professional school plans with a Career Counselor.
- Acquire some level of leadership experience through clubs or activities.
- Begin to network with alumni, friends, and family.
- Learn about entrance exams needed for graduate or professional school. Plan when you will take these.
- Continue to attend career panels and information sessions.

Seniors
- Explore career choices through career counseling.
- Review graduate/professional school plans with a career counselor or graduate school advisor.
- Prepare for and register to take graduate/professional school entrance exams.
- Update your resume and cover letter and have them reviewed by a career counselor.
- Continue involvement in clubs and organizations. Seek leadership opportunities when possible.
- Attend career workshops, employer information sessions, and networking events.
- Participate in employer on-campus interviews.
- Develop a networking plan.
- Read all emails and notices sent by the Center for Internships and Career Development.
- Attend career fairs.
