Infant Lead Teacher

Drew University’s Acorn Academy is accepting applications for a Lead Teacher in our Infant classroom. Acorn Academy is Drew University’s childcare center, located next to Drew University’s campus at the rear of the United Methodist Church. This position will serve children 10 weeks to18 months of age. This position involves lifting infants weighing between 5 – 20 pounds. It also requires frequent bending, standing, and being down on your hands and knees.

This position is for 35 hours a week, 12 months a year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of each child enrolled in the class, whether in the classroom, on the playground, or in common areas
  • Maintain regular observation and evaluation of children’s development and progress directed by administration
  • Maintain portfolio for each student using – ASQ-3 and GOLD (Acorn’s assessment program)
  • Complete weekly lesson plans, goals, and newsletter
  • Accept and maintain responsibility on a daily basis for the arrangement, appearance, decor, and cleanliness of the learning environment of the classroom, following ITERS-3  guidelines
  • Plan and implement age and developmentally appropriate classroom practices that will include the areas of physical, emotional, social and cognitive needs of young children following the Creative Curriculum 
  • Serve as a role model for the children in the areas of attitude, speech and actions on a daily basis
  • Treat each child with dignity and respect for his/her cultural background
  • Encourage children’s development 
  • Interact with each child on a daily basis through personal care, meals, free play, etc…

Desired Qualifications

  • BA degree in Child Development or Education field or an Infant/Toddler Teaching Certificate (or years of experience in conjunction with educational credentials as outlined in the Manual of Requirements for Child Care Centers)
  • First Aid Training, CPR
  • Minimum 2-3 years; preferred work experience 3-5 years
