It’s Open Enrollment season, the time of the year when benefits eligible faculty and staff make their annual benefit selections.  It is also the time of year when we announce the cost for health and dental insurance, as well as any plan design changes that are being made. The message over the past few years has not changed – health care costs continue to escalate – and unfortunately this year is no different.  Like many employers across the nation, we are experiencing an increase of nearly 11% for the cost of health care insurance for 2012.   Next week we will publish the rates and instructions for participating in this year’s open enrollment program.  Please stay tuned for additional information.


HR and Payroll are in the process of building benefit, employment and salary information in Banner for all full and part-time faculty and staff, temps, and others who have an employment relationship with the University.  The process requires us to key and maintain all data in both Aims and Banner until we “go live” on January 2, 2012.  Our number one priority is to make sure that everyone is paid properly, so as we enter the final stages of Banner implementation, it will be necessary to limit the changes we process over the next few weeks.

Effective immediately, we will only process paperwork for new hires and terminations that take effect in 2011 and benefit changes received during Open Enrollment.  The November 4 deadline for Open Enrollment as well as the November 18 andDecember 9 payroll deadlines will be strictly enforced — any other requests will be processed after January 5, 2012 (we will run our first payroll in Banner on January 3rd!).  We regret any inconvenience these temporary restrictions may cause and ask for your patience during this transition to Banner.

Floating Holidays

Don’t forget to use Floating Holidays before the Christmas break in December!  Unused Floating Holiday hours do not carry over to 2012 –all unused floating hours will be lost.

Tuition Exchange Reminder

If your child is interested in participating in the TE program during the 2012-13 academic year and/or if your child is currently receiving a TE scholarship, you must complete the application form, located on the HR Intranet site,  and return to HR no later than October 31, 2011.

 ***Payroll Deadlines***

To ensure that monthly paid faculty and staff are paid correctly, all paperwork, including stipends and new hire benefit enrollment forms, must be received in HR or Payroll no later than the dates shown below:

  • October 20 for the October 31 paycheck
  • November 18 for the November 30 paycheck
  • December 9 for the December 22 paycheck
