Open Enrollment Q & A
Q. My child is 24 — can I enroll them in the dental plan?
A. Dental benefits are only available to children up to age 23.
Q. My son is 25 – is he eligible to enroll in my medical plan?
A. The new Healthcare Reform legislation provides coverage for adult children up to age 26, regardless of their financial dependence, residence, student or marital status. If you have a child under the age of 26 who does not have coverage through an employer, you may enroll them in our plan. You may also submit expenses for them under the 2011 FSA.
Q. Do I have to do anything if I want to keep the same benefit plan(s)?
A. Medical, dental and vision enrollments will roll over to next year — unless you advise us otherwise. However, you must re-enroll in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) every year.
Q. Why do I have to re-enroll in the Flexible Spending Account (FSA) every year?
A. FSA’s are regulated by the IRS; under their rules, enrollment in an FSA account must be done every year. It is the only benefit that has this requirement.
Q. I am making a change to my medical, vision and/or dental plan(s). What do I do?
A. Complete an enrollment form for each benefit you are changing. Also complete a Health, Dental and Vision Care Rate Sheet – circle the plan you are enrolling in and the monthly cost. Return all forms to HR no later than November 12. Copies of all forms are the HR Intranet site under Open Enrollment.
Q. I am canceling my medical, dental and/or vision plan(s). What do I do?
A. Compete an enrollment form for the benefit(s) you are canceling and write “Cancel” across the top of the form.
