Summer Friday’s Q&A
Q. Is there a “jeans patrol”?
A. Absolutely not! Supervisors in each area ultimately decide what appropriate attire is for your office. Just remember -– we are the face of the University and all attire must be appropriate to the workplace and the situation! Flip-flops and spaghetti straps, however, are still a no-no!
Q. What hours should staff work?
A. Staff are expected to work their normal 35-hour schedule in four and one-half (4½) days. This can be accomplished through a combination of working a longer day, taking a shorter lunch hour, and/or with supervisory approval, using unused accrued vacation time.
Q. Does this mean the office has to open earlier and/or close later?
A. Not necessarily. Staff who come in earlier or work later can, with supervisor approval, do so without the office having to extend the normal 9:00 – 5:00 service hours. Many offices have work that can be done before/after hours; where practical, this is permissible.
Q. Are some offices remaining open on Friday after 12:30?
A. Yes. The Library, HCH and Public Safety remain open on Friday afternoons.
Health Care Reform — Dependent Children Up to Age 26
The health care reform law that passed in March includes coverage for dependent children up to age 26; this provision will apply to Drew as of January 1, 2011. In the interim, we must gather information from you to help us project Drew’s costs for implementing this program and to prepare a special open enrollment period for eligible children.
To update your information, please log in to Campus Web, scroll down to My Family and Benefits, add the name, relationship, gender, birth date and Social Security number of each child (up to age 26) who is not already listed, and hit the “save” button. Should you have any problems updating your record, please give us a call at x3515 or x3795.

Using Your Insurance
Every insurance program provided by the University is governed by a set of rules that define what is available under the plan; this set of rules is spelled out in a document called a Summary Plan Description (SPD). The SPD provides information regarding what is and is not covered, when pre-certification is required, how to file a claim, what to do if you want to appeal a decision, etc. Faculty and staff are advised to read the appropriate SPD before seeking services under your plan. SPD’s are located on the HR Intranet site under each benefit. Questions? Call Fredi at x3795 or Deborah at x3515.
Important Reminders
Voluntary Retirement Program. Full details of this program were mailed to the HOME address of all eligible faculty and staff on June 1. If you believe you are eligible for this program but did not receive a packet, please contact Deborah at x3515 by June 11.
Life Insurance Beneficiary. Faculty and staff currently enrolled in the life insurance program received a new form to update their beneficiary information. Please return to HR by June 11. Questions? Call Fredi at x3795.
Vacation – Final reminder. All vacation hours in excess of 140 will be lost as of June 30, 2010. Staff will have through July 15 to update all time taken during the 2009-10 fiscal year. Please remember that you will continue to earn vacation every month, but in order to accrue additional hours, you must keep your total accrued hours under 140 every month!
