Great Colleges Survey

As President Weisbuch announced last week, Drew is participating in the 2010 Great Colleges to Work For survey. ModernThink, the company that is managing the survey for the Chronicle of Higher Education, will compile the data they receive from survey participants and prepare an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the University.  The timing of the survey will allow us to include the findings in our report to Middle States in the fall.

The survey was sent over the week-end to all full-time faculty and staff; we encourage everyone to respond before the April 16 deadline.  Your participation will help us to make better informed decisions about the things you tell us matter to you.

Sexual Harassment and Employment Discrimination Training

Sexual Harassment and Employment Discrimination Training is mandatory for all full and part-time faculty, including adjuncts, and staff.  Designed to help us understand, respond to and prevent employment discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace, the online training takes less than one hour of your time and you can take it at anytime and anywhere you have access to a computer.

All deans and vice presidents will receive a list of all faculty and staff who have not completed the training later this month.  If you have not already done so, please fulfill your responsibility by going to: http://training.newmedialearning.com/phs/drewu to take the sexual harassment training and http://training.newmedialearning.com/ped/drewu for employment discrimination training.  If you are not certain whether you have taken the training, call Fredi Cox at 3792.

Volunteer Service Leave

In 2008 members of the US/A and Human Resources worked with the Provost to develop a pilot program to encourage staff members to volunteer their time and talents to engage in community work.  The Policy reinforced the University’s commitment to civic life by providing paid time off for staff interested in volunteering for community service through a non-profit human service organization.  Cabinet approved the Volunteer Service Leave policy on a one-year pilot basis and it became effective on November 1, 2008.

We are pleased to announce that the Policy was reviewed at the end of the pilot year and the Cabinet has approved continuing the policy on a regular basis.  A copy of the policy is available at Volunteer Service Leave.

FSA: 2009 Reminder

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requires that any money left in your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) be forfeited if it is not reimbursed for an eligible 2009 expense.  Expenses incurred by March 15, 2010 must be submitted for reimbursement no later than June 15, 2010.  For a copy of the form to submit to United Healthcare, please go to Drew’s Intranet website, click on employees, scroll to benefits, flexible spending account and click on claim form.
