FLU INFORMATION
You have been diagnosed with probable flu . Here is some information to help you while you recover.
- Complete an on-line release form, giving the Health Service permission to communicate with various departments (such as the Dean’s office, Res Life staff) on your behalf. This release pertains to this illness ONLY. To complete the form log in to Treehouse, click the “student” tab, then click on MyHealth Portal under Health Services. Click on “my forms” to complete the release.
- PLEASE USE EMAIL OR TELEPHONE TO COMMUNICATE WITH ALL SERVICES. Please do not go to offices, friend’s rooms, dining halls, cafes, and other places on and off campus where you can infect others.
- Notify your instructors and the Dean that you are ill and were advised by Health Services or your private provider to stay out of class. You should remain out of class until you are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication (Dayquil, Nyquil, acetaminofen, ibuprofen, aspirin, etc).
- Notify Residence Life or Housing that you have been diagnosed with flu and that you will be either: going home to recuperate, or self isolated on campus (see below).
If you are unable to go home to recover and need to stay on campus, here are additional instructions:
- Health Service staff will be contacting you to monitor your condition, so please be sure to respond to our emails or phone calls! If you are staying on campus and we do not hear back from you, we will have a Public Safety officer knock on your door to make sure you’re OK. If you do not respond to the Public Safety knock the public safety officer will enter your room to make sure that you are okay.
- Self-isolate. Avoid contact with others as much as possible. This includes staying out of class, the Commons, the library, common areas of dormitories and other areas of campus where you will be in contact with and infect others. If you have a roommate, encourage them to stay with a friend. If your roommate has problems with this, please have him or her contact Residence Life as soon as possible.
- Contact Residence Life or Housing (reslife@drew.edu, housing@drew.edu, as appropriate) and let them know that you have been advised to self-isolate.
- Designate a buddy. You will need to identify someone to pick up meals for you from Dining Services. Please let Dining Services know who you have as your buddy.
- Contact Dining Services at dining@drew.edu and let them know you will need boxed meals while you are ill. Dining Services will inform you of how to order and to have your buddy pick up your meals.
- When you have to leave your room to use the bathroom, please, please, please, clean your hands with hand sanitizer before touching any door knobs — and wash your hands with soap and water before leaving the bathroom!
- Stop the flu with you…
As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your health, do not hesitate to contact the Health Service and we will assist you. 973-408-3414 health@drew.edu
