Thank you for registering for Drew University’s 2013 Advanced Placement® Summer Institute for teachers! Complete details and program updates about courses and making your way around Drew’s campus will be posted on this page during July 2013.

Check-in and Schedule

The AP® Summer Institute will convene between August 5th and August 9th, 2013. Check-in will take place in the rotunda of the Dorothy Young Center for the Arts starting at 7:45 am on Monday, August 5th.  Signs will be posted on campus to direct you to parking and to the Arts Center check-in.  Our staff will be available in the registration area until 9:30 AM on Monday, August 5th. After that time, we can be located in S. W. Bowne Hall, Dean’s office.  Walking directions between buildings and parking locations can be found using the online map of campus. Transport from the Ramada Inn will coincide with this schedule.

After AP check-in you will be escorted to Brothers College where all classes are being held. Courses meet Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, and Friday, 8:30 AM-12:30 PM.  Individuals needing special assistance should contact the Office of Hospitality, Conferences, and Hospitality at 973/408-3103 at least five working days prior to the event in order to ensure appropriate arrangements.

Room assignments will be assigned in July.

Directions to Campus

Find details about getting to Drew University on the driving directions web page. The online map of campus provides walking directions between locations on campus.

Parking at Drew University

Parking fees are included in your tuition. The AP® Parking Pass 2013 (PDF) (available here on July 29th) must be printed by all attendees before arriving on campus, and must be displayed in the front windshield of your vehicle when parked on campus. When you arrive at AP check-in Monday morning, leave the parking pass on your windshield.

Where to Park for Class
The student parking lot closest to check-in on Monday morning, August 5th, at the Dorothy Young Arts Center is the Tilghman parking lot. If that lot is full, you should park in the Main parking lot. Both are accessible by entering campus at the traffic light on Madison Avenue and Lancaster Road. It is a very short walk to the Arts Center from either lot. Handicapped parking is available in both lots.

Lodging

If you are interested in housing arrangements, The Ramada Inn & Conference Center of East Hanover, which is a ten minute drive from our campus, is offering a special rate of $69/night plus 15% tax for either double or single occupancy to participants of this institute as long as room availability lasts. The reservation deadline is July 15, 2013.  This rate includes a complementary hot breakfast buffet and transportation to and from Drew’s campus at appointed times (see APSI Week Agenda for shuttle times), once daily each way, Monday through Friday.  To make reservations, please contact The Ramada Inn & Conference Center at 973-386-5622.

Refreshments and Lunch

Tuition includes morning coffee and lunch daily in the campus dining hall, located in the University Commons. In the evenings, attendees may find a number of happenings and restaurants in Madison, a ten-minute walk from the Drew campus. Several restaurants are located near the Ramada Inn, including Dunkin’ Donuts, Chili’s, Romano’s Macaroni Grill, Baja Fresh, Penang, and Don Jose Mexican Restaurant.

On Monday, August 5th, the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies is hosting a luncheon in your honor and we cordially invite you to attend. The luncheon will be held in Mead Hall, the historic mansion that is the centerpiece of our campus. It begins at noon and will end in time for you to return to the classroom for your afternoon session. The luncheon will offer you an opportunity to learn more about Drew University.

Laptops

This year we are asking APSI participants to bring a laptop to the workshop. Classrooms are fully mediated, enabling instructors to project information to the front of the room. Since all classrooms are WiFi accessible now, consultants and students find it to be more convenient to work on their personal laptops rather than move to the computer lab. If you don’t have a laptop, and cannot borrow one, please let the APSI office at Drew know so they can try to obtain one on your behalf. Drew “guest accounts” will be established for you. You should be able to access the internet by connecting to the drew1x wireless network. If brought to a page prompting you for a username and password, scroll down to the part of the screen that says ”Guest Login” and enter the following:

User name: AP2013
Password: Name (e.g., “FirstName LastName”)

Please bring this login information with you to class.
