Learn to navigate life as a Manhattan theatre professional. Live in New York and take the subway to Midtown for daily rehearsals of a new musical production about the life of Ella Fitzgerald. Tour locations in Harlem and the Broadway district that are the historical settings for the play. Explore the worlds of Broadway, off-Broadway and off-off Broadway theatre.


Life as a Theatre Artist

How do artists collaborate to produce and stage a new theatrical work? How do research and inquiry inform an artist’s ability to imbue a work with historical and cultural context? And what does it take to succeed in New York theatre?


Synthesize Immersive and Academic Learning

Be part of the new musical “Ella, Reach for Tomorrow,” as a performer, choreographer, director or manager. Partner with an Actors’ Equity company to develop the play and perform for an invited audience. Study the swing and jazz era and the life of jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald. Learn to negotiate city life and its complex social and cultural environments.


Rehearsing and performing with an Actors’ Equity company directly connects students with professionals in the world of New York theatre, creating opportunities to build networks and friendships.
