Break Closings

Thanksgiving Break

Thanksgiving Break begins on the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving. The Residence Halls close at 12:00 PM (Noon). We ask that all residents vacate the Residence Halls prior to this time. If you require some where else to go, the University Center is open until the early evening for your convenience. We ask that all students bring their belongings to the University Center We ask that you contact your families and make prior arrangements to make sure you are off campus at the appropriate times. The Residence Halls re-open the Sunday following Thanksgiving at noon. If you should need to come to campus prior to noon that day, please utilize the University Center until our FOB systems are reactivated.

Information slowly is released in the beginning of November and continues until closing. Your RAs will post signs and will have mandatory floor meetings about what time the Residence Halls close and what time you are allowed back. Check-out lists will be taped to your doors prior to the week of closing. Please do not remove the lists from your doors. This is a guide for you to know what we are looking for! Please know beforehand that if you fail to complete the checklist, you will be fined (as mentioned in Daniel's Dictionary). It is also important for you to sign the checklist when you are leaving for break, so we know what rooms we can inspect first (so our staff can go home early too!).

During Thanksgiving Break closing, we will be conducting Health & Safety Inspections (and Riker, Townhouses, and the Suites will have Bathroom Inspections). Please be advised that if you fail inspections, the item(s) will be confiscated and you will be fined. If your bathrooms are dirty then Facilities will clean them and you will be charged. This is an amazing way to avoid any fines! All confiscated items may be picked up from the Office of Residence Life at the end of each semester, prior to you leaving for Break/Summer.

Anyone needing to reside on campus during Thanksgiving Break will be removed to a designated location. If you need to stay on campus, please contact Housing at x3681.

January Term Housing

JanTerm Housing is unique to Drew University . Typically, January Term Housing begins during the first week of January and is open to Drew students who are working on their academic internships (field work), approved independant study, honors work, volunteerism, international students, athlete-approved by Athletic Department, employed students by the University during January, and students enrolled at a program at Saint Elizabeth College Housing for these areas begins with a Housing Application, which is available from Housing as well as ResLife. You may pick up the application in late November/early December. Please follow the directions on the application to ensure a proper spot in our JanTerm Housing.

Each year, JanTerm Housing is hosted in Baldwin and Haselton halls. Unfortunately, if you live in any other ResHall on campus, you will not be able to reside in your permenant location. The reason we do this is part of our initiative to "Go Green." By only using these two halls, we only re-heat and re-power two halls, as opposed to 15. You do have the option of residing in a friends room. More information is located on the Housing Application.

All designated hall residents are expected to prepare their rooms for JanTerm Housing. During the end of the semester, they are given "January Term Usage Forms" for those residents who are incoming. This allows the permenant residents to give permission to the temporary residents on what they can use. It also gives contact information. All designated hall residents must turn in their room keys (failure to do so will result in change of lock - charged to the student's account), strip their bed of linens, clear off their desk, clear out half of their dresser, and half of the closet for the JanTerm resident. ResLife staff will inspect to make sure this is complete. Should it not be complete, the actual resident runs of risk of having their items removed for them. Just because a resident may not remove their belongings, does not mean the room will not be utilized.

For move in times, locations, information, etc. for JanTerm Housing - please contact the Office of Residence Life at x3394 or Housing at x3681. JanTerm residents who do not leave the room in the condition it was left will be charged for the cleaning of the room.
