Deshawn M. Cook grew up in the lovely neighborhoods of Brooklyn, New York. During his teenage years, Deshawn attended Clara Barton High School for Health Professions where he graduated with honors and a certification in Nurse Assisting. Deshawn then went on to attend Ramapo College of New Jersey in order to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. After graduating from Ramapo College in May 2007, Deshawn quickly began the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) program at his alma mater.
Residence Life is not only a career, but a way of life for Deshawn. Deshawn was first hired as a Resident Assistant his sophomore year in a first year residence hall at Ramapo College. Deshawn was then rehired for a second year in an upperclassmen building where he set the standard for what a stellar resident assistant should be. For his hard work and dedication to the Office of Residence Life and the campus community, Deshawn was presented with the Melissa Annunziato Memorial Award for Resident Assistant of the Year. Deshawn’s senior year of college was spent as a Community Assistant in an apartment complex designated for seniors and students whom are 21 and over. Again, hard work and dedication allowed Deshawn to be presented with the Heart and Soul Award for Residence Life. In his first year as a grad student, Deshawn served as the Assistant Residence Director for an apartment complex designated for upperclassmen at Ramapo College.
Deshawn is elated that he is now a part of the Drew University Office of Residence Life Staff and excited to be a part of the wonderful Drew Community. Deshawn is looking forward to developing personally, as well as, professionally and building lasting relationships with staff and residents.
