Language in Context Requirement

Please note that these degree requirements are for students who entered prior to Fall 2009.

Foreign Languages at Drew and the Foreign Language Requirement

If you plan to continue studying the foreign language in which you have already done some work, I urge you to register for the appropriate level language course for the Fall semester. Without practice, acquired language proficiency can quickly deteriorate.  If you place at the intermediate level now, for example, and wait a year before continuing, your proficiency may no longer be at the point where you can perform satisfactorily and you may have to drop down a level or two.  This may have consequences for your intended program of study.  In selecting your courses for the Fall, please keep this in mind.

Please check the enrolled student website for information about self-placement and on-line placement tests in a foreign language. Complete the placement test by the date indicated.  In the meantime, when you submit your registration for the Fall semester, please also register for the foreign language course that corresponds to what you consider to be your level of proficiency or, if you are starting a new language, for the introductory course in that language. Should any adjustment in your enrollment in a foreign language course be necessary, it can be made, in consultation with the instructor, during the first two weeks of the semester.

Languages taught at Drew include Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Latin, Russian, and Spanish.
