The Office of Student Activities recently donated many items, including yearbooks, campus directories, and many student handbooks. The earliest was a CLA handbook from 1940 (still all-male student population), which listed the rules, traditions, activities, songs, cheers, clubs, organizations, and other guidelines for life at Drew. At the time, Drew had a mild "hazing" tradition for freshman and one page of the manual was devoted to "Freshman Rules." These included: wearing a placard bearing his name printed in large and plainly visible letters, must not walk on campus grass, must obey sophomores on all reasonable requests, must wear his dink (beanie) and tie at all times, must not keep his hands in his pockets, and he must wear a jacket or sweater whenever he leaves his dormitory. Some of the traditions included a Hollowe'en Party, Annual "Gripe" Session, Christmas Carol Singing, Steak Roast, Bounders Day (a chance to imitate and burlesque your professors), and Victory Bell-Ringing.
