Gala Invite

Gala Invite 2

The Friends of the Library eighth biennial Library Gala will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009.  By tradition, the dinner celebrates authors, reading, and libraries.  This year’s Gala will also be a tribute to the late Professor Merrill Maguire Skaggs, retired Baldwin Professor of Humanities.  A literary talk written by Professor Skaggs for the occasion will be delivered by her friend and colleague, Dr. Marilyn Callander.   Marilyn and Robert Callander will serve as honorary dinner chairs.

The program begins at Kirby Theatre at 6:00 p.m.; hors d'oeuvres and dinner for the black-tie-optional event will follow in Mead Hall at 7:00 p.m.  Invitations will be mailed in December and can also be viewed below.  For more information about the Gala or the Friends of the Library, please call Deborah Strong in the Library at 973-408-3471.  All proceeds for the Gala benefit the Book Endowment Fund of the Drew University Library.

An Invitation to Join the Friends

The primary mission of the Friends of the Drew University Library is to enable the collections to grow beyond the constraints of the Library budget. Consequently, the Friends have set an ambitious long-term goal-the raising of $1.5 million in endowment for the purchase of library materials. The Library Gala held every other year in January is our premier fundraising event.

I invite you to become a member of the Friends of the Library, participate in our activities, and gain the deep satisfaction of enabling our Library to grow in stature and effectiveness. Please call Debby Strong, 973-408-3471, for further information or to request a copy of the Friends of the Library brochure and a Library newsletter.

A Word from the Dean of Libraries

The work of the Friends of the Library is indispensable to the mission of the Library. In recent years we have been able to purchase valuable sets of reference works that otherwise would have been beyond our means. The Friends ensure the health of an essential Drew tradition-the building of substantial collections of scholarly resources.
