The Drew University Archives preserves and provides access to the historical records of Drew University.
What is in the University Archives?
- Current and past issues of Drew publications, such as the Acorn, the Drew Magazine, alumni newsletters and directories, student magazines, yearbooks, course catalogs, and other university publications.
- Faculty articles, books, lecture notes, some class curricula. Some large collections of faculty papers and correspondence.
- Student papers and theses, some class notebooks, diplomas.
- Photographs: nineteenth-century class portraits, scrapbooks, faculty members, campus buildings, and campus events.
- Papers from various campus offices, events, and student organizations as well as all three schools.
How do I search for records in the University Archives?
- The library catalog contains a few records of archival collections, but most are not in the catalog. Some collection finding aids and indexes are available on the webpage at http://www.drew.edu/depts/library/archives.aspx.
- A finding aid provides detailed information about a collection, such as the types of materials, dates, and topics.
- All research will require the guidance of University Archivist.
What material is restricted?
- Student transcripts or grade records of living students.
- Personnel information.
- Certain legal documents regarding private donations.
- Files from the sitting and previous president's office.
- Board of Trustees minutes – the University Archivist can request permission to access records.
Other important information:
- Because many of the documents in the Archives are one-of-a-kind and fragile, you may be asked to use gloves while you work, to use pencil or laptop only (no pen), and to leave your bookbag outside the office area while you work.
- All research must be done in the University Archives as archival material does not circulate. With arrangement, materials may be used at the Methodist Center .
- Photocopies are 10 cents per page. All copies will be made by the University Archivist.
- In cases where circulating copies or microfilm of university publications exist, patrons will be asked to utilize those copies for photocopying.
