Follow these simple steps to help ensure your Drew-issued laptop continues to be valuable resource during the course of your studies.
Scan for viruses : Computers at Drew use F-Prot for anti-virus protection.
Scan for spyware : Your laptop has Spybot Search and Destroy installed and ready to use.
Keep your computer clean:
·Do not allow food or liquids to come in contact with your computer, as they can cause damage to the internal components. If you do spill something on your computer:
If it was on, turn it off
If it was off, do not turn it on while it is still wet
To clean the screen, use a soft dry cloth. If necessary, you can use a commercial screen cleaner for LCD displays, or just water. Do not use any type of glass cleaner with amonia. Spray the cloth, not the screen. Click here for cleaning information from Lenovo's website.
Handle with care.
Don't pick up your laptop by the screen. Close the lid carefully. Although this sounds like common sense, in 2006, there were more that 50 laptops brought to the CNS helpdesk with screen damage, usually by people closing the lid on a pen or remote, or by dropping the computer.
Back up your laptop: by backing up your settings and files, you can ensure you do not lose valuable data should your laptop become unavailable.
