http://docx.drew.edu is the Drew University Web interface of the DocXchanger software platform.  This site will allow you to access all of your network files remotely and grant access to those same network files to other users.  If you do not already have DocXchanger installed on your computer and would like to use the installed client, use these directions to find out how to download the Windows Installed Client and learn to use it here.

Logging In

The http://docx.drew.edu uses the standard iChain authentication system (Drew username and password).  This means that if you are logged into any of the other iChain enabled sites you will be automatically logged in to docx.drew.edu.  If you are not logged in to an authenticated Drew site, you will be prompted to log in with your Drew uLogin username and password.  Once you are logged in, you will be presented with the docx.drew.edu Home Screen.

Accessing Your Files

  From the Home Screen, you can click on any of the folders to access the files in those folders. In addition to your personal F:\ drive, you will also have access to any network resources such as course resources, or departmental folders.

Uploading a File

The DocXchanger platform allows you to upload content to an existing folder.

1. Navigate to the location to which you wish to upload the file.

2. At the bottom of the page, you will find an Upload File box.

3. Click on the Browse button.

4. Locate the file, then click OK.

5. Click the Upload File button.

 

Downloading a File

1. Click on the file name

2. Choose Save File from the window that opens.

 

Creating a Folder (Directory) - If you create a Folder in DocXchanger, it will appear in your Network Drive

In DocXchanger, Folders are called Directories.  You can easily create a new Directory using these simple steps.

1. Navigate to the location you wish to create a new Directory.

2. At the bottom of the page, you will find a Create Directory box.  07 web create folder

3. Type the name of the new Directory you wish to create.

4. Click the Create Directory button.

 

Renaming a File or Directory - If you Rename a File or Directory in DocXchanger, it will be renamed in your Network Drive

1. Locate the file or Directory you wish to rename.

2. Click on the Rename 09 web rename icon button next to that file or Directory.

3. In the Rename screen, enter the new name.

Deleting a File or Directory - 

If you Delete a File or Directory in DocXchanger, it will be deleted from your Network Drive

 

1. Locate the file or Directory you wish to delete.

2. Click on the Delete 10 web delete icon button next to that file or Directory.

3. On the Delete screen, click on the Delete button

Sharing Files and Directories

Sharing Files or Directories with Drew Users

1. Click on the Share 08 web share icon button next to the file or Directory you want to share.

2. Click on the Add Internal button.

3. The next screen is the Notification Email composition screen.  Each person you share the file/Directory with will receive this email notifying them of the sharing relationship and instructions for accessing the file(s)/Directories that you are sharing.  In the Notification Email you can set the following options:

    a. Subject - Sets the subject line of the notification email.

    b. Description - Allows you to provide a description of the file and the reason for sharing.

    c. Expiration Date to Start - This is the date that the recipient will begin to have access to the file/Directory. This date can be set any time on or after the date you establish the sharing relationship

    d   . Expiration Date to End - This is the final date on which the recipient will have access to the file/Directory. The maximum period access can be granted to a file/Directory at one time is 90 days. If you wish to grant recipients more time, you will need to repeat the sharing process after their initial access has expired.

    e. Access Rights - If you have the right to give others Write Access to the file/Directory, this check box will be available to you.

    f. Consumers - To add Consumers, you should click on the Search button under the Address Book portion of the screen.

        i. The Address Book window will open and allow you to use either the UserID or Last Name of a person to search for them.

        ii. After you have found the person you wish to Add, click the check box next to their name.

        iii. Click the Add button.

        iv. Close the window.

4. Click the Apply button.

 

Sharing Files or Directories with External (Non-Drew) Users

1. Click on the Share 08 web share icon button next to the file/Directory you wish to share.

2. Click the Add External button.

3. Follow steps 3a - 3e in Sharing Files or Directories with Drew Users above.

4. Consumers - To add a Consumer, type the email address in the Consumers field.

5. Click on the Apply button.

 

Accessing Incoming Links

When a DocXchanger user shares a file or Directory with another person, that person will receive an email notifying them of the shared resource.  To access a shared file or Directory from the docx.drew.edu web site:

 1. Click on the link in the email you have received about the shared file or folder.

2. If you are not logged into the iChain system when you click on the link, you will be asked to log in with your uLogin credentials (Drew username and password).

 3. You will then be presented with the main DocXchanger screen with the shared resources listed under your username.

4. You can now access the shared resource using the same method for accessing your personal files described in Accessing Your Files above.
